Do you want a brighter whiter smile? We can help you accomplish that goal!

Dr. Thompson has studied and researched many different teeth whitening systems over the years. His goal has been to find the best possible whitening process — best results, least sensitivity, and most patient/user friendly. As you can imagine, there are many different systems and we have offered several promising options over time.

As long time patients of Dr. Thompson will tell you, he is extremely protective of his patients and wants to make sure they are well taken care of dentally and otherwise. He has long recognized the value of a bright smile and wanted his patients to have the best and most effective treatment. Toward that goal, he has sought out the best research and studies across the dental literature.

In his final analysis, Dr. Thompson has come to believe that the most patient friendly and most effective teeth whitening process is custom trays worn at night filled with a bleach that is 10% carbamide, not hydrogen peroxide. The trays are worn at least four hours, and can be left in all night.

Usually, patients do not notice much, if any, sensitivity. If sensitivity does occur, whitening can be skipped until it subsides. In our office, we also offer fluoride gel which can be put in the trays instead of the bleach to counteract the sensitivity. You can also use Sensodyne toothpaste to counteract the sensitivity.

The whitening process takes about 2-6 weeks for teeth to reach their optimal whiteness — varying upon how often and how long you bleach during treatment. (The agreed upon standard measure of optimal whiteness is for your teeth to approximately match the whites of your eyes!)

Of course, everyone's teeth are subject to becoming less white over time due to the various things we eat and drink. Changes in the color of your teeth can be caused by factors such as drinking coffee, tea, soda, and red wine, as well as childhood medications, illnesses, tobacco use, or improper oral hygiene. SO, it's is necessary to have the option to be able to touch up the whiteness of your teeth from time to time. Our custom take-home trays make this a simple fix!

Dr. Thompson has recently added a whitening tool here at the office. It is a portable bleaching pen which has carbamide bleach as its agent. Our office team auditioned them at the ADA Convention in Denver, October, 2016, and liked how well the product worked without causing sensitivity. It is something our patients can carry with them and use for touch up when it is inconvenient to use their custom trays.
